Our Ethos

The Snowdrop House Montessori Group was founded over 23 years ago and is proud of the strong reputation and high standards established across all settings. The team extends sincere thanks for your interest in the nurseries. Each nursery provides a caring and nurturing environment where children can grow and flourish under the guidance of a qualified, professional team of nursery practitioners. Many team members have been part of the organisation since the very first nursery was established.

The group follows the philosophy of Maria Montessori, focusing on developing in children a lifelong love of learning. Through Montessori teaching, the nurseries encourage children to become capable, confident and independent learners, in harmony with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) (DfE 2021). The curriculum is designed to enable every child to develop a broad range of skills, giving them the very best start in their early years. Children are supported with the skills they need today and set up with every opportunity for success in the future. The group’s logo, “Love grows here,” reflects the warm, supportive ethos evident across all settings, where the team continually strives for excellence in every aspect of nursery life.

In November 2025, Happy Days Nurseries and Pre-Schools was delighted to have been given the opportunity to expand its portfolio further with the acquisition of Snowdrop House Montessori Group. Both nurseries will continue to be known as Snowdrop House and Primrose House with the manager and staff team remaining in place. They will now be supported by the Happy Days Nurseries and Pre-Schools Directors and Support Centre Teams. For more information on Happy Days click here.

Primrose House and Snowdrop House Montessori nurseries are registered and routinely inspected by Ofsted. (Please see our reports online) .  We continuously look for ways to further improve our care and learning environments through training courses, reflection and following current best early years practice.

The care of your children is paramount at all times within the Snowdrop House Montessori Group. “Every Child Matters” to us and children are supported by highly qualified, inspiring and caring teams. In our baby seedlings and rose room we provide lots of cuddles, reassurance and individual attention. We have cosy cot rooms where our babies sleep. Outside play time is very important to our babies and we have all weather surfaces for their play.  Our older children experience creative play, exploring outside, music, dance and many other activities.

Every child has their own key worker who takes a special interest in their child’s welfare and development.  They are your first point of contact, they will get to know your child so well and extend their learning through teachable moments, supporting their next stages of development based around their strengths, needs and current interests. By following your child’s interests they will be motivated to learn.

The food served at our day nurseries is freshly prepared and nutritious. The menus are created with Zebedees and by an expert dietitian Charlotte Stirling Reed ensuring your child receives a well-balanced diet to promote healthy growth and development. We cater for allergies and food preferences. Zebedees have perfected the art of preparing fresh, home cooked nursery food that is appealing to young children, while keeping variety and nutrition at the forefront.

We are working towards becoming a “Rights Respecting Nursery” and our award to further become more inclusive embracing UNICEF Rights of the Child.

All nursery team members have a DBS police check as part of our Safeguarding requirements of the Statutory Framework for the EYFS. The Snowdrop House Montessori Group promotes fundamental British values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs. We treat each child as an individual following their learning styles, interests, strengths, needs making our environments stimulating and welcoming to all.

We have strong relationships with our parents and carers sharing milestones of their children’s time with us, through Famly our online learning journals or face to face. Many families continue to send their youngest children to us long after their older siblings have left for big school. We have an open door policy where parent’s views are welcome through our comments boxes, questionnaire, face to face, by phone or email. Parents are welcome to read our nursery policies which detail our procedures concerning first aid, safeguarding, the key person, and self regulation.

Our vision for the nurseries is to provide a home from home environment which is full of laughter and learning. We look forward to welcoming you and your child into our nursery.
